Back from vacation

Well, we are back in town from visiting family. We were in Illinois getting some time with Trey's family, some we haven't seen in years! And it was nice to catch up with them.. such good, sweet people!

For the most part we really enjoyed our time. Andrew LOVED playing with his cousin, Addyson. They spent countless hours outside together, swimming in the kiddie pool, running around giggling, blowing bubbles and fighting over toys. He also met his new cousin, Reagan, whom he actually held and gave kisses too. This is a big step for a certain little boy who is not quite a baby-hater, but definitely has a lot of strides to make before another baby makes its way into our house!
We went to a tractor museum, where a GREAT time was had! Andrew was in tractor heaven.
We enjoyed ice cream, Popsicles and fireworks. Well... some of us enjoyed the fireworks. SOMEONE was scared of them and had to sit inside the whole time. No, I'm not talking about Trey.
I got to see a movie with my SIL - Brave. It was cute, but not my favorite. I think I'm in the minority here though.

Like I said, a fun time for the most part. Then things got a little crazy. I won't go into too much detail with names or too much specifics, but it does need to be mentioned. I thought long and hard before posting about this. I don't usually like to post about family business when it's derogatory, but inthe end, I really felt like I had to. This is my blog where I talk about important things going on in our lives. This is big for me right now, something I'm very concerned and hurt over.
We all know that judgement is out there when it comes to your parenting. It's not right, but it's going to happen. Mostly (and sadly) from other mommies though, right? And especially from women who aren't yet parents. We can forgive them because, bless their hearts, they just have NO CLUE. We let them think they will do it a whole different way and have the perfect child while they can. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, right?
Sadly, for the last half of the week, we caught the brunt of parental judgement. I would even go as far as to say judging my child. That, my friends is not fun to deal with. Apparently, we don't discipline our child well enough, if at all. Isn't that funny? I find myself exhausted with how much I have to stay on Andrew, but if it's not done the way people think you should do it, it's not good enough or it's not correct. It was made clearly known to us that we should be spanking. And that even if we do not spank him, he WILL get spanked at said someone's house whether I like it or not or whether I'm there or not.
REALLY???
That was one of my biggest issues. Please do not threaten myself or my child. I don't respond well to that. (I'm trying to keep this factual and not let my anger come out, but I'm having a hard time... back on track!) A few different conversations were had by certain people that were concerned with Andrew's behavior (he cries, whines and throws tantrums at times... in other words... he's a toddler. A young one at that who doesn't have a complete vocabulary to express himself with) and the way we handle it (without spanking. We do time-outs and talk calmly, but firmly to him). Eyes were rolled in his direction multiple times. That's the gist of it.

When did it become anyone's business but mine and Trey's as to how we raise our child? Why do people feel they can dictate how we run things? I'm upset and I'm hurt. Mostly for my husband and baby. This was supposed to be a vacation for Trey. His week of relaxation before NTC. He definitely doesn't feel like he got that and that's really sad to me. Secondly, I hate people looking at my child as less than. He may not behave the same way as another child and we may not handle things the same was as another mom. That DOES NOT make him the lesser child and it certainly doesn't mean our parenting isn't up to par. Please don't give me the feeling that you are annoyed with my child. It doesn't sit well with me.

That's about all I can say. All of this being said, I really did enjoy getting that time with Trey's family that I haven't seen in such a long time. I just wish it hadn't ended on such a sour note.

May 31, 2011

It all started as a normal day..

complete with a walk in the park with a friend (3 miles.. go us), a few naps (for Drew, not me, pinky promise), lunch, and playing with toys.

It ended with a court date in my near(?) future. Let me back up..

Right after Drew's second nap (around 3pm) we're sitting on the living room floor, goofing around when I hear a bunch of ruckus out by the side of our house. I look out the window and there are two HUMONGOUS dogs that seemed to have gotten my neighbors gate open. I freaked a little because they have an older basset hound that I kind of consider like 1/18th mine. He's always outside and barks to let me know when someone is coming. Sometimes annoying, but always comforting. Anywhoo..

The two dogs were terrifyingly big, have I mentioned that? They are running away, but houndy is now out. I don't have the neighbors number and I sure wasn't going out and risking my life with those two beasts running around. I called the police and when finishing up with them, manned up a bit and went out to make sure the hound was okay. I canceled the police call because I saw the owner of said beasts grabbing the dogs from the yard across the street and herding them into the back of his pickup. They drive away and I think all is good. Until...

Neighbors are outside. Wifey is by the front door and assured me the hound was now in the house. Hubs is across the street in above mentioned yard. I asked her if she saw the beasts, yes she had, she says... and did I know that.. grab a tissue... they KILLED the little pup across the street!!! Mauled it to death. My heart still breaks.

We saw the house that the owners of the two dogs lived at.. we see the guy tell his lady about the sitch, she freaks, and walks down to us. She's all worked up until she learns what dog it is that was killed by her dogs. Then says "she doesn't f'ing care" and "she has told that woman to keep her dog inside two times". REALLY?? The poor pup was in it's own yard. And it doesn't matter how annoying the little pup was that roamed the streets. You're dogs violently killed it. That's someones dog. Take responsibility and show some heart. The family wasn't home. They have kids of all ages. They are going to come home to that.

She struts back home. And this is where it gets hard for me. We discussed what to do and it didn't take long to know we had to call Animal Control. That could have easily been any number of the little kids that play outside all day. Andrew and I sit in the driveway quite often (He has a big obsession with cars and it keeps him entertained. With a yard full of rocks.. the driveway is the spot to be).

I had to run to the store and told the neighbors to come right over if they needed anyone else to talk to Animal Control. When I get home, the dead dog neighbors and the ones next to us are all outside. I head over and those kids had just found the dog. Next door neighbs tried to talk to the mom before the kids had seen it, but it was too late. The kids were bawling. It was heartbreaking. The mom walked down to the killing dogs house and chicky completely denies she even has dogs! Can you believe it??

Animal Control guys shows up and after not too long, one of the girls knocks on my door and asks if I'll go and talk to him. Since home girl denies everything (not sure how she thinks she'll get away with that.. the poor fam got pics of the dogs through her window) they are going to need witnesses to testify in court. I couldn't tell that family that I wouldn't do it.. I'm glad to help them.

It's just a sucky situation though. I know it's going to mean putting those dogs down. I know they were vicious. I know they did very wrong. But I still can't help but feel a little bad about helping to put them down. I even feel bad for that stank woman who's going to get her dogs taken away. But when it comes down to it.. I know it has to be done. Unfortunately they got out. What if it happened again? And what if next time it's not "just" a dog that caught their viciousness? They were getting into people's fenced backyards. That's scary.

So.. yeah... blahhhh

Blogger's Block

I have severe, severe bloggers block. Partly I guess because I kept myself insanely busy this week and I also just don't have much to talk about.. shocker!

But I figured I'd spit a little something out while Trey is SUPER cleaning the entire house. I tried to help, I really did. But he's doing such a deep cleaning.. everything from the kitchen is in the living room right now and it's like my mind spiraled out of control and I start panicking. I don't do well with chaos and that's what this seems to be right now. My kitchen is well on it's way to being cleaning enough to eat off of every single surface though! Good job Trey. Sorry I am a spaz and can't handle it. ADD kicks in big time. It got bad enough that he told me to just sit down and chill.. sooo.. here I am. Good husband!

I'm getting less stressed about our trip home and more excited. I've made mine and Andrew's packing list (Good God.. Trey is now dusting the kitchen chairs!!!) and that helps a lot.

I can't friggen wait to show him off to everyone! In just one weeeekk... ahhhhh! He's so much fun right now, which I know I've said 100000 times, but I just can't get enough of him. His laugh is so contagious and I kiss his cheeks enough that they should be chapped! I can't help it. If those chubby cheeks are within 3 inches of me, I will be loving all over them.

Let's randomly switch subjects, shall we? I had a much needed night out with a new girlfriend Wednesday night. Why Wednesday night you ask? 1/2 off bottles of wine at Carino's. Good reason for me! Some other girls from Centering were supposed to go, but I think everyone is really busy because of the holidays. The two of us had such a good time.. chatting, laughing, and even crying! It is SO nice to have finally met someone that I really click with! Fun Fact: our babies were born on the same day, in the same hospital. We were laboring at the same time. If I've already mentioned that then forgive me, it's so cool to me.

That's all for now. Maybe I'll go play with Andrew some more while Trey finishes scouring the house. We're going to see some Christmas lights tonight that are supposed to be pretty amazing :)
