Looking Back

Last night, I tuned into my regular Sunday night programming, Army Wives. I STILL love that show and hope against all hopes that it continues. I always look forward to it (no matter how silly it gets or how unrealistic it really is, but I was a little extra excited last night. Fort Bliss's Commander's wife, Mrs. Lucille Pittard, was a guest on the show! I knew she was flown out a while back and saw all of her pictures... so I've been looking forward to the episode for quite some time. She looked great and even got a big shot out from General Holden (squeal), but this is actually not what I want to talk about today.

It was finally time to Roxy give birth to her twins. The first one comes out without a problem. They are gushing over him, holding him, etc.. and I'm left there thinking for what felt like 5 minutes, "Wait.. I SWEAR she was having twins. Did she lose one? Did I miss something?" Then finally, we know. There are complications. She is rushed back for an emergency c-section and when the baby comes out, he's not okay. Cord wrapped around the neck and has to be rushed off to be hooked up to the respirator.

My breath caught and I was in tears immediately. I know this happens quite often, and while I can certainly empathize with anyone going through that situation and I would never wish it on my worst enemy, I don't fall apart every time I hear about it. What got me was watching Roxy and Trevor's reactions. The terrifying scene of watching them scoop your baby away without you getting a second with him and they don't have time to explain, the unknown, the doctor's not being able to answer your questions, the whole, "the next 24 hours are critical" speech.

One of our first looks at our sweet boy
Having to leave the hospital without him and come home to everything you had set up for him, going back for visits and FINALLY that sweet moment when you are able to touch him for the first time.
My first touch.

When the "what-ifs" become more hopeful, but you still have to wait. It all hit so close to him. I relived every single one of those emotions all over again. (To make the situations even more similar.. they named him Drew...... Right?!?)
He got better and better by the day. We were thankful for one less machine attached to him  each time.

And then we finally got our day. I can remember, just like Roxy, staring at him and staring at him. Trying to let it all sink in. We had our baby home and oh, THIS is what it's supposed to be like!
On our way home after 12 excruciating days at the NICU
This little reminder, if you will, came just a few weeks before that fragile, but incredibly strong at the same time boy turns 2 YEARS old. My normal, rambunctious, on-the-go-nonstop, sweet, loving, hilarious, smart, handsome boy is just a few weeks away from turning 2.
And Trey and I both feel as if we are the luckiest parents on the face of this earth. He's ours and he's healthy and beyond happy. I'm not sure what life meant before you got here Drewby, but I can say with fair certainty, the everything.. every choice your Daddy and I made... it all led up to you! We were just waiting for you to be a part of our lives. Happy almost birthday sweet boy!

Day 11: TV

I don't watch as much TV as I used to before Drew was born. The ones I STILL won't miss though..

Army Wives
Parenthood
Modern Family
The Office (I don't know if I'll still like it as much with Michael gone. I'm usually a big Will Ferrell fan, but I'm not sure if I even laughed once during his first episode. We shall see..)
So You Think You Can Dance (coming back soon!)

That's it! A year ago this list would have been a mile long.

Another Post about Oprah

Yesterday, I watched Monday's Oprah episode that I had DVR'd. When I saw the topic: The most dangerous thing you might be doing with your life (something along those lines) I couldn't resist. I had to know how dangerously I've been living.
It turned out to be a really sad - and informative - episode about using your cell phone.. texting particularly... while driving. I admit, I used to do this almost 100% of the time. It was no big deal to me to text away almost the whole time I was driving. I could handle it... I can practically text without looking at the phone.. right? Not so much. One night I watched Seven Pounds.. that night ended my habit. How could I ever live with myself if I did the unthinkable? If I took someones life because that text was sooooo important.
On the show yesterday, or Monday, they showed a few families who have been affected by this. One story that really stuck with me was about a 9 year old little girl who died. Her mom was driving down their street, on the way home from the doctors office, when she saw flashing police and fire truck lights on said street. Then she saw her daughter's mangled bike. Another lady had been driving down the street, texting away, she never saw the little girl. Can you even imagine??

They say that texting while driving is the equivalent of having 4 drinks and getting behind the wheel. Oprah's doing a No Phone Zone Pledge where you can pledge not to do this anymore. All you have to do is click here.

End my public service announcement of the month. Tomorrow's my group nurse appointment.. should be interesting!
Oh yeah.. and don't forget to post any questions you have for me here. I'll answer on Monday :)

Random Tidbits

There hasn't been much going on in my world except baby makin' ... definitely not enough to form a full blog post at least. It's sad, but here's a few note-worthy points from the last few days...

My mum bought her own copy of What To Expect so she can follow along herself with where me and baby are. I thought that was the cutest and sweetest thing ever.

I FINALLY made it to the gym. I walked 2 miles and called it a day, but I did go! I felt very dizzy afterwards so I wonder what that was about. I'm eating enough and brought a bottle of water with me.

After trying to fight off The Bachelor for 2 weeks, I gave in yesterday and am all caught up now and loving it more than ever. My favorite is Ali. I know who wins because of Spoiler Steve. I won't ruin it for anyone unless you want me to... email me.

I learned this morning that it is NOT okay to shower before breakfast. The hot water + an empty stomach will cause a pregnant woman to damn near black out and dry heave for a very uncomfortable amount of time. I'm still disgustingly nauseous 45 minutes later.

I have a social coming up and a cocktail party, both for Trey's unit. What does one wear to a social at 11:00 in the morning? I'm thinking regular ol' every day clothes, but correct me if I'm wrong. Clearly I'm not talking about a long-sleeved tshirt and sweats or anything.

I think that's all for now. I've gotten 2 awards this week, and didn't want you girls to think I forgot about them. I promise I'll get to them soon! For now, it seems I can't even form a decent paragraph!

New Favorite Show

If there is anyone left out there who hasn't seen Modern Family - you are seriously missing out on some great laughs. The show just started this fall and has quickly become the highlight of our week. Sad.. yes, maybe. But don't judge until you watch this beauty. It comes on Wednesday nights. Last night was their Christmas episode and was HILARIOUS. I couldn't find any clips from it, but I did find this preview from before the show started. It'll help you get caught up a little because I know you just have to watch it now that you've heard my testimonial.

And because I really can't get enough and want your day to be filled with laughter... a couple more for your viewing pleasure:

Okay I'm done. Hope you enjoyed :)

Intervention

I just finished watching the latest episode of Intervention about twins who had a problem with anorexia. I have just about nothing going on in my own life to blog about so I'll share my thoughts about this episode.. because there were many.

It got me thinking about being a parent. It's so scary. The parents on the show were immigrants from Poland. They came here with 2 suitcases and didn't speak a lick of English. They worked there asses off (mom at McDonald's, dad at a wood working shop) and after just 2 years bought a house and started a family. Their three kids had a great life growing up. Seems like they were a tight knit family and the girls got to do any activity they wanted to (karate, sports, etc.). At one point in the show, Mom and Dad were sitting at a table, looking at pictures, and the dad was just a sobbing mess remembering all the good times. He made the comment that he thought he had done everything perfectly which brings me to my point. You raise your children with the best of intentions and the highest of hopes. And you very well may do everything "perfectly". But that doesn't necessarily mean you can control the outcome. What if you have to stand by at some point and watch your child/children screw up their lives seriously and there was nothing you could do about it. It must have been so painful for them to sit back and watch their twin daughters slowly kill themselves.

Secondly, I was trying to understand the actual disease. I don't know anyone personally who has gone through this. How does it start? Just a normal person that wants to lose a little weight and it gets out of control? Or is there something a little off mentally to begin with? I understand that once a person hasn't had any food for a certain amount of time, your brain is making you think you can literally not eat, but how does it even get to that point. What in that persons head makes them look in the mirror and think they are fat when they are 86 lbs? Did that person every have a love affair with food like I do? I think not. I could never give it up.

There's a show that comes on after Intervention called Obsession. I think it's mostly about people with OCD and the like. I've yet to allow myself to watch it. I don't have an ounce of OCD in my body (aside from my night time rituals) but I do have a little problem with hypochondria. I'm scared I'll make myself believe I have a problem if I watch that show.

Few Random Tidbits

First off and the most reoccurring thing that's been in my head today... I DESPERATELY want a blog makeover. I know there are a couple of you girls out there who can do this type of thing but I'm not quite ready. I really want a new name for my blog first. One that more so identifies with my life right now. But I need help. I don't have a creative bone in my body. Seriously... I have nothing. Please please please throw out any cutesy suggestion you may have. ANYTHING. Even if you've never commented before.. clearly I'm not above begging. You never know what might spark an idea in my head. After I find a new name I'll then start begging for the makeover ;)

Second.. I had a pretty kick ass workout today at the gym! Man, it really helps when you take someone with you! I did a mile and 1/2 on the elliptical. A mile on the treadmill. Leg machines, arm machines, and free weights to work on the ever-so-flabby obliques. I feel GREAT! I've put any running goals I had on the back burner. I wasn't so much enjoying it to be honest. What I LOVE though is the elliptical. We get along great and my short little legs are starting to say "thank you" when I look in the mirror. Your welcome babies.

Third and lastly... I'm watching my favorite show tonight and I'm so excited that it's this time of year for it. Is anyone else in love with So You Think You Can Dance??? (from now on referred to as SYTYCD so I don't have to type that all out) I'm pretty obsessive with this show. I thoroughly enjoy watching people dance and really really wish I had the talent myself. My favorites are the Contemporary and the Hip-Hop styles. The way they can make their bodies move... it blows my mind.. beautiful! I like it all though ~ can't wait until they actually start competing each week.

That's all for now. Happy hump day :)

*after thought: Thank God for spell check*

I have a new obsession

And shocker... it has to do with television.
Army Wives on Lifetime! I just watched an episode for the first time and it is by far waaaayyy up there on my list of favorite shows. I may have even cried at the end. Hey.. it was moving okay?
I know I'm watching old episodes... does anyone else watch this? Is there a new season coming? Please say yes!
