Settling In

Well we've been in town for only 4 days and I have to say, I'm happy with where we are already. Everything has been going as smoothly as possible:

*Andrew and I are both registered with the hospital on post and have a family doctor assigned to us.
*My referral for an OB has gone through.
*I have an OB picked out and have my first appointment next week.
*My brother got back into town with my van and all of our belongings! This made our move so much more real feeling. The fact that we're here for a long time is still trying to sink it's way into my brain. For the most part, it still feels like any other visit, but now that we have all of our stuff, it's much more real.
*A lot of it is put away and organized. My clothes are all in the closet, Andrew's bed is put together and his toys and books are all in his playroom.
*Andrew is figuring out that we're here to stay. He's not sadly asking me to go back to Andrew's house. If I ask him if this is his home, he'll say yes, and even say so on his own a few times a day. This started yesterday and let me tell you, that takes a lot of the break out of my heart!
*I'm figuring out where the little things like cutting boards, strainers and baking pans go. This seems like a little thing, I'm sure, but it makes me feel more at home. You know how it is when you are visiting at someone else's house and you try to empty the dishwasher for them, but you don't know where anything goes? Yeah, I hate that. The more at home I'm getting, the more I feel like I can contribute.
*I'm starting to put my feelers out there for any mom groups I can join. I'd like to join some sort of MOPS group... I think it would be a good move. I'll need stuff to keep me busy and things to look forward to.

As I suspected, the act of actually leaving Fort Bliss and Trey was a lot harder than being away. Does that make sense? We certainly miss Trey and our friends, but there is a lot going on here... well a lot of people here.. to keep us going. This part of it is harder on Trey. He's stuck in this limbo where Andrew and I aren't there, so there is no one to come home to, and he's just waiting to leave. I really think it'll be easier for him once he's actually over there.

So, that's about all we have going on for now. I'm looking forward to getting together with friends, doing a little shopping a crafting with my mom this weekend, and possibly going to see Lights at the Zoo. I think it's going to start getting a little chilly around here so I'm off to think of some Christmas crafts I can do with Andrew... we have to have some purpose to our day or they will drag out!

Busy Bee

I'm surprised I still have anyone following this ol' blog!

I don't know what is going on - ahem.. having a 10 month old and almost 800 extra square feet to keep up - but I have zero free time lately. My days have been jam packed full and I'm too tired at the end of the day to even make my fingers type. Not that I'm complaining.. life has been great.. my blog has just taken a back seat for now. I'm not giving it up, though, you can't get rid of me that easily!

So.. what have I been up to?

Andrew turned 10 months (yes mom, I know I owe you a 10 month post) and there have been so many fun changes with him. Still working on getting rid of that separation anxiety, though. It's bad. Like can't leave his side without him wailing bad. Yes, I'm asking for suggestions. Throw some of your mommy knowledge at me.. even if you think I've probably tried it already. I probably have, but I'm desperate.

I have a friend here that is a photographer and she wanted to take some pics of Andrew to build up her portfolio. Who am I to deny her that opportunity.. what kind of friend would I be? Umm.. they are amazing. Here is a quick sample..

Do you die looking at those? I do. Every single time. So there was that.

Then.. I've become great friends with Mel. Are you jealous? You really should be. She's such an awesome girl and even though she's leaving next month (I already tear up a little when I think about that) I'm so very glad we met and we've been giving this opportunity to get to know one another. We've been busy with a girls night with my other fav, JG, and have another one planned for this week (and another one for the week after.. they don't know about that yet), a day of shopping and Taco Bell, and explaining the lawyerish details of the Casey Anthony trial to me. It's been wonderful. Ohh.. and grilling out...

Trey and I hosted our first big cookout last night in our new home. Our house was full and I loved every second of it. I love having people over.. our last house didn't so much allow for it with it being so small... luckily we have much more space and a great backyard for entertaining. Hopefully, we'll have many more nights like that during the summer and over football season!

And the best news? One of my bff's from back home had her baby today! Precious Madison Leigh was born at 1:13 eastern time. Congratulations Ashleigh and Matthew!! I can't wait to meet her :)

Settling in

Well that was not a planned hiatus! Our Internet was supposed to be set up the day before we moved into our new house, but wasn't working the day we moved in. Why, you ask? Oh, that would be because AT&T doesn't serve our new address. You'd think that would be something they'd tell you when you tell them what your new address is going to be.... just a thought.
But that can't be my only excuse. I've had service for a week now (through TWC which is actually cheaper, so eat it AT&T) but I just haven't felt like blogging. One.. I've been busy. Lots of stuff to organize and much more space to clean in this house! Two... it's always a little overwhelming for me to start back up once I've taken a break. I'm not sure why that is. Just need to get in the habit again, I guess. But, I figured with Drew's 10-month coming up, I sure better start or else my mother wouldn't be very happy. 28 years old and still striving to please the woman ;)

We are just about settled in our new beautiful home, minus a few random objects here and there. Once we get the main, highly used stuff up, it's hard for me to find a space for the crap that's left over. Or the motivation to even put my mind to it!
We got a pretty rug yesterday since we have hardwood floors for the first time. We have a few decorations up here and there and have mostly just pictures to arrange on the wall and one wall to paint. I'm sick of living in white boring walls. We'll have to paint it back to white when we leave, so just painting one accent wall seems like the best thing to do. Add a little homeyness, but not too much work to do when we PCS (move).

Like I said, we are just in love with living here. I'm loving living on post! The convenience is wonderful! My morning walk is longer and much more beautiful.. hello grass and trees and good-bye yapping dogs at every other house!

Now that I have this random, almost thoughtless post out of the way, hopefully I can slowly start posting more again. There probably won't be a link up again tomorrow, but feel free to blog about it without me. I'm still reading along!

~Happy Humpday~

Time to put my happy pants on again...

1. trying a new kind of wine - picking it out solely because I think the bottle it cute (it had polka dots.. come on.. ) and it ending up being delish.
2. having date night last Friday and a Mexican restaurant, then coming home and doing nothing but jamming out to some fly tunes and drinking said bottle of wine.
3. The movers bringing our stuff over the weekend and having the majority of it unpacked by Monday... feels much more like home around here.
4. The feel of the brand new carpet beneath my bare feet.
5. The fact that I'm actually starting to love going to the gym makes me happy.
6. finding out Trey can come home for a couple hours a night.
7. Dinner/Starbucks dates with my one and only friend here and laughing almost non stop when we're together.
8. Loving my new haircut and thanking God my eyebrows are cleaned up!
9. Hearing from friends and family back home on a daily basis makes my day more than they know.
10. The one piece of dark chocolate I have a day.

Home Sweet Home?

I MADE IT!! Safe and sound and in one piece.
It's really not as bad as everyone made it out to be... i don't think.. yet. Yes, it's a very small town. But really... everything I need is here (on one of the 2 main roads). Except Target of course, but I digress. That's what online shopping is for. Our little apartment is just perfect. It's plenty big enough for the two of us. I'm really not that hard to please.
I got in around 2:00 yesterday and we we're going going going nonstop until bedtime. Hubs got a thoughtful whim up his sleeve yesterday and had flowers and a presh card waiting for me. He tried to get me a bottle of wine as well, but apparently, they don't sell wine on Sundays here. Beer? Yes. They even have a beer drive-thru here.. ha! But you cannot buy wine on Sundays. Weird. We ate and ran a bunch of errands. I straightened up our little haven immediately and got some candles burning so it smells a little more like home.
Got a laundry list of things to do today to keep me busy as well, but I have a feeling that I'll have a lot more time for the gym and blogging. I do have to find something to keep me busy everyday (you know.. like a job). I don't think I'll find errands to do everyday to get me through.
Point of this post: I'm a lot happier than I thought I'd be. It is what you make of it. We'll have NO control over where this life takes us for as long as hubs decides to stay with this. I have to get up every morning and decide to make the best of every situation I'm put in. I can either decide to be miserable or happy. Either way life is going to keep trucking on, so I might as well smack a big fat smile on my face!
