Staying True To My Name

Man... I really feel like I made this whole moving thing way harder on myself than it needed to be. In my defense, we weren't sure if this was going to be considered a PCS move since we're only there until the end of April. And regardless of what the Army considered it ~ I was going with him. Come hell or high water. So, just to be on the safe side, I started packing. One room in our house is dedicated completely to boxes. Not such a good thing says Transportation. Not too big of a deal, but I will have to un-tape all those boxes I took the time to tape. Oh well, done.

Now I've never actually been through one of these moves, but it sounds like it goes pretty smoothly? Feel free to bust my bubble if you feel the need. The only thing I'm a honestly more than a little down about is the fact that hubs is leaving tomorrow. They aren't coming to pack our stuff until the 24th and 25th. Then loading it up on the 28th. Which means I can't leave until then. I know it's only a couple more weeks, but I sho am sick of waiting! I feel like I've been talking about this and waiting for it until I'm blue in the face. The fact that we have had NO CLUE what we're doing all along hasn't really helped, but next time we'll know *hence the title of my blog... Learning As We Go...*

Grrrrrr! I'm ready to get out there and start a new life in Oklahoma!!

So they're packing you? They won't pack liquids.

Hope it all gets moved and worked out for you!!!! You'll be in OK and I'll be in TX!

PCS moves are easy, as easy as you make them. As said above they wont pack liquids. If you're driving to your new destination, just put them in a plastic bin in your car (cleaning supplies, etc). They come in and pack and you just sit and watch. You may cringe every once in a while but just keep repeating "full replacement value". You'll be fine, I would be anxious too! And remember- it's just stuff- its not like they could damage your husband:)

Make sure you break down any furniture that can be broken down i.e. book shelf you bought from Wal-Mart. I had a book shelf I had bought from target and decided to keep it up for the move. It arrived smashed, not a big deal since the gov't sent me a check for the damage, but if you have something that can be broken down that might be hard to replace or you don't want to see broken do it. My computer desk, while very sturdy I broke down because I didn't want to have to replace it.

You'll want to find someone who can be there for those 2 days. In case you need to run some where or need someone to go get something, you always want someone at the house while their packing for obvious reasons. Having a second person available is a tremendous help. Something my mom instilled in me with movers, was that I always had drinks and bought lunch for them, usually pizza. It's a nice gesture to the people handling your stuff.

Can't wait to hear how this move goes for you! No advice from me except to keep a good balance of calm and excitement. As I've never been through one of these I have no experience to lend. :/ Best of luck though! :)

Love the army "hurry up and wait". They will not insure anything you have packed. Which is why they will unpack and repack everything.
I have been through 2 moves, its best (in my opinion) to let them pack the stuff and then you do the unpack yourself they will sometimes off the unpack but SAY NO, all they do is take everything out of boxes and leave it in the middle of the floor, its a mess (learned from experience) but sit back and relax its a pretty cool thing if you can just let go... I know its tough..lol
